Prayer at the Pole

Americus RC - Prayer at the Pole (2757) low rez

The expression “rally round the flag” refers to coming together for a common purpose. And what could be a more fulfilling purpose than coming together to express and share our faith? As a faith-based senior community, many of our Magnolia Manor residents and staff love to do just that. So once we were able to congregate in person again, our Americus campus started a new tradition – prayer at the flagpole.

The gathering usually takes place on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 – rain or shine, though if the weather is inclement we may move undercover nearby.

Residents and staff who wish to participate gather round for fellowship. They share prayer requests along with current joyful moments in their lives, and of course they pray. Rev. John Walker, our V.P. for Spiritual Care, starts with a devotion and allows ample time for residents to share with the group. Then he closes the event with another prayer. If Rev. Walker isn’t able to attend, Ty Kinslow, our Senior V.P. for Communications, fills in and leads the prayers.

Sharing faith-related activities is part of daily life for many of our residents and staff at all of our campuses, whether they gather round a flag pole or in some other specific location. Sharing life’s joys and challenges is a regular occurrence among all of our residents as they go about their daily activities, since we consider our communities to be our extended family.

During the holiday season, these opportunities for fellowship and sharing can be all the more important, especially for those who have no nearby or visiting relatives. In the true spirit of Christmas, residents and staff can take comfort in knowing they belong, sharing their faith, receiving support for trying times in life, and having someone to share their happy moments.
